Hi, I’m Thea! I’m an atmospheric scientist heading to Antarctica for six months of fieldwork. Follow along for science, station life, and a little adventure along the way!

About me

I was born in Lund, Sweden but moved to the Bay Area in California at the age of six. I got my BA in Physics from the University of California, Berkeley with a minor in Climate Science. After a gap year back in Europe, I started my PhD in Earth Science at Scripps Institution of Oceanography, with a focus in Atmospheric Dynamics. I love to laugh, ski, run, and explore new places!

My Research

My research focuses on Antarctic aerosols, their sources & sinks, seasonal cycles, and transport patterns. I have spent the first few years of my PhD analyzing data from past campaigns, but am looking forward to having long-term in-situ data from the upcoming field campaign!

Drone Zone

In preparation for the field campaign, I have been learning how to fly drones after obtaining my FAA Part 107 Remote Pilot Certificate in March. Drones are helpful for our research because we can see how temperature and humidity vary vertically, so we can see how aerosols and moisture move around within the boundary layer. We’re hoping to fly up to 3000 meters at Palmer Station!
